In the aftermath of a disputed police shooting of an unarmed Black teenager, an archaeological team uncovers a mass grave tied to a forgotten 19th-century massacre in the fictional New England town of Eldridge. As team members die in seemingly ritualistic accidents, the community blames an ancient curse. True-crime journalist Ellis Ward, in the vein of Ann Rule, documents the case, only to reveal that the deaths are not supernatural but a meticulous cover-up orchestrated by a powerful local family seeking to bury the past—and the present.
