Novel Summary
In 1926 Republican China, a young prosecutor secures the execution of a student activist for the murder of a warlord's agent. When the real killer confesses years later, the prosecutor discovers the case was a meticulously staged trap. Consumed by guilt, he embarks on a path of self-destruction, targeting the corrupt legal system that enabled the injustice, only to find himself entangled in a web of emotional coercion far more suffocating than any prison cell.
