Holladay v. Gestamp Alabama, LLC

On August 28, 2025, James Holladay filed a personal injury lawsuit against Gestamp Alabama, LLC, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama. Holladay, a former machine operator at the company’s automotive stamping plant, alleged that a massive stamping press malfunctioned due to missing safety guards and faulty interlock switches, crushing both of his arms and causing permanent disability. The complaint argued that Gestamp knowingly ignored repeated safety warnings and had disabled protective equipment to speed up production. Holladay sought substantial compensatory damages for medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering, as well as punitive damages for gross negligence. Gestamp denied liability, asserting that Holladay had bypassed safety protocols and that his exclusive remedy lay under Alabama’s Workers’ Compensation Act.
