Reiwa 6 (Wa) 327 Professional Negligence Resulting in Traffic Endangerment, Death, and Injury Case

In Tokyo, Japan, on March 15, 2025, a delivery truck driver, Sato Takuya, employed by a major logistics company, fell asleep at the wheel while driving on the Shuto Expressway. His vehicle collided with a passenger car driven by Tanaka Kenji, who was traveling with his wife, Suzuki Yumi. Tanaka Kenji sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Suzuki Yumi suffered severe injuries requiring extended hospitalization. The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department investigated the incident, revealing that Sato had violated mandatory rest period regulations, having driven for 18 consecutive hours without adequate breaks.
