In February 2025, a violent altercation at a construction site in Wakayama City resulted in the death of Tanaka Hiroshi. The defendant, Kaneshiro Takeshi, a Zainichi Korean resident, allegedly struck Tanaka with a metal pipe following prolonged ethnic harassment and workplace bullying. The prosecution charged Kaneshiro with murder, arguing he acted with premeditated intent after a heated argument involving racial slurs. The defense contended the act was manslaughter due to sudden provocation, citing years of documented discrimination and a temporary loss of self-control.
